When positioning your motion sensor, here are several tips to keep in mind:
- Sensors have viewing angles of 170° horizontally and 97° vertically. They can detect motion from up to 20 feet away (7 meters).
- The sensor works by monitoring changes in infrared energy. Avoid pointing sensors directly at lights or mounting your sensor next to vents, radiators, or other heat sources.
- Try to position your sensor so that an intruder would have to walk past it when entering rather than walking directly toward it.
- If you have large pets, you may have to experiment in order to avoid false alarms. Point sensors away from stairs and other high places where pets may go.
